Wow Krista! That is very kind of your hubby! What a blessing he is to your friends!

I am overwhelmed and amazed at the kindness of my friends, and not just a few, and not just my close friends! I am praising God for the abundance of people who have cared for me in tangible ways this week, beyond anything I would have dared ask them for! I am truly blessed!

As for beauty, I went with a friend to a potluck in Larkspur, CO at a ranch which has an oversized log cabin with high ceilings, Louis XVI furniture, crystal chandeliers and gilded ornate everything. I would not have picked out the decor, but it was beautiful.

Also, beauty, on a much less grand scale, some friends came over and helped me remove the ugly microwave which was mounted under cabinets and over the oven. (It came with the house.) I can't believe I put up with it for 8 years, but now that it has been replaced with a simple hood/fan/light, and a little fresh paint, and new hardware on the drawers, my little kitchen looks awesome!

Oh Mame, I'm so glad there are people who are there, tangibly reaching out to you with helping hands...

As always, you make me think of a song. This one is called
"With My Own Two Hands" by Jack Johnson. It is one of the tracks on the Curious George soundtrack that doesn't play in the actual movie.
My community member/family member and I had the house to ourselves one weekend and watched Curious George with homemade milkshakes, then spent the next evening playing this song and building it with guitar and ukulele. But, enough about that -

Jack Johnson is one of my hero's. (I have quite a few) Singer Songwriter, Hawaiian Environmentalist, goes around and teaches schoolchildren about recycling. He's such a cool guy. This one was written by Ben Harper, and sung by the two of them.

Now, for Labor Day weekend - lots of these, but here's a couple.

Kindness: An old tenant, now moved, has been appearing at the house lately (since Chicago!) whenever I have to spend a day running errands or doing anything or working. Yesterday, I came home before she left, and swore to her that I'm usually here, it just happens that she seems to come when I'm not! But I'm beyond grateful for the love and caring and conversations she has with Mom. She is one of our many angels.

Beauty: The moonlight all weekend, the beautiful night air in Northeastern Ohio, the swing in my neighbor's yard, the picnic shared by family and friends, getting Mom out of the house for it! The firelight and conversations with friends.

Abundance: The old tenant staying while I made dinner, and instead of moving her car so I could get out of the driveway to get more milk, telling me the keys were in the ignition - take her car. She didn't need to do that! Just seeing this kind of trust and openness made me feel that I was in community again - filled me up with all the good in the world.

Peace in your hearts,

kindess~my darling came out yesterday to do some wonderful work on the old house!! and when I exclaimed, "Oh...that's way too much!" while admiring some porcelain fixtures...he bought them for me as a present!!
(course, then the next day i dropped $75 at ACE hardware when the stuff we really needed probably only amounted to 10 bucks i'm more dangerous in a hardware store than at the mall!!)

beauty~tuesday night ~A~called into the house from the porch, "oh look, honey...we've got company." Two of the juvenile raccoons came right up on the porch (again)....they're so-o-o-o cute! And they were surprised to see him!! LOL

abundance~ I have 12 giant pumpkins!! well, they're not GIANT pumpkins yet...but they're supposed to be!!

Kindness, Beauty & Abundance....was all wrapped up in my darling who got to play the Knight in Shining Armor this morning!
but instead of rescuing me from dragons (!) he got to save the princess (that's me ) from faulty brakes!!
yeah!!...that was wa-a-a-ay scarier than any ol' dragon!
though, instead of being suddenly without brakes at any point along miles and miles of dark country roads i travel on a regular basis (and in the rain all this weekend) alone,
my brakes went out this morning just up the street from a parking lot right after it stopped raining
with my darling just around the corner!! my Guardian Angel has always taken great pride in her work!
he's got the biggest toolbox i've ever seen (cleverly diguised as an old VW hippy van) so he had my brakes fixed so fast i was barely late for work!

i'd say he's definitely a keeper, being in the rescue business and all that.

although....i would imagine it's easier to have a toolbox in the form of a VW van rather than on a white horse.

Kindness: an extremely generous and unexpected belated birthday gift.
Beauty: A walk in the midwest country-side on a magnificent early autumn day.
Abundance: a pot of bubbling soup brimming with goodness and love.

Simple pleasures abound!!

If I tell you what the birthday gift was, you'll think I'm CRAZY to be so excited about such a thing, so let me tell you that it's not so much the "thing" as how fast, easy and well and non-chemically "the thing" works which then actually means it's the gift of "time" and "goodness to the earth" rather than "the thing" itself.

With my disclaimer firmly in place, I will tell you............It's a mop. HA! An environmentally friendly mop that you use only water with - no chemicals for the wet version and then there's the dry version too. Both mop heads are washable/reusable for a long, long time. It swivels into the tiniest places and under chairs without moving them. It snatches up dog hair like magic. It amazes me. No one has EVER accused me of being overly persnickety about house keeping. Believe me, I'm not, BUT this little gizmo is going to encourage me to do a quick & easy clean up more often than before. They come with a rather pricey little price tag - but if I've intrigued anyone by being thrilled with a birthday mop - the brand is Norwex. You can google them and see.......

OK. Cart me off to the funny farm. ~kathryn

Kindness: My neighbor brought us some avocado to add to the lunch my family shared out on the deck today. Mom wasn't feeling good, but having my neighbor there made her laugh and distracted her. I was just grateful he came over.

Beauty: The laughter in this place! Kathryn's MOP!!! How fabulous!!! And of course, the two hour bike ride Dad and I took yesterday, the stunning lake we stopped to look at no less than 20 times, and the repeat of that adventure on the 40 minute fast version today. The burn in my legs and adrenaline from the exercise.

Abundance: Laughter talking to a good buddy on the phone who I haven't talked to since his wedding in August, and a random grocery store adventure with one of my best friends. She even replaced the chocolates my puppy ate!! lol
Just being healthy and alive and surrounded with kindness and beauty and miracles...

Peace in your hearts,
With the love of my soul
