I’ve been tending a little white candle
for the last month and it just taught me
a whole lot about life.

It’s been some work. I had to first whittle
down the candle’s upper-half. The flame had liquefied the sides and buried the wick.
I carefully dissected the wick free - it lit easily.

The burning candle at times would extinguish its own flame - overcome by the liquid flow having no path for escape or able to give space to it’s source. Without space or a path the flame died.

I thought how important to tend the flame deep within our souls that burns and lights our spirit. Then I thought how important to tend to the flame that burns in those we love.

It takes a lot of work to consciously tend to a candle. The flames we carry are fragile as well. We need to honor the space within and the path our lives take. At the same time, we need to give way and honor the paths of others.

So strike a match and light a candle.
It doesn’t take much to light the flame.
Keeping it burning is another story.

I am glad the love and magic here keep burning.

It's funny - just this last Monday I was showing Joel's book, Rock People, to a friend of mine who also likes to build stories with stones on the shores of Lake Superior when she travels there. Wonder what he's up to.

Rock People
Was that self-published? I don't find it at Amazon.

BTW...do you and your stone-stories friend know Andy Goldsworthy's work? If not, you're in for a mind-blowing treat. Check out "Collaboration with Nature" at your library and/or watch "Rivers and Tides" on Netflix for a taste.

I just googled Goldsworthy! You're right Rich -- great stuff!! You might also like to check out a sculptor named Adam Long.....pretty amazing too!
