The wonderful influence of storypeople flows over me. This is a storypoem I wrote for a friend:
She was a lot like the
rocks she loved;
Solid, strong,
and most especially, quiet.
Rocks don't talk much,
I said to her.
Oh, but they do, she replied.
You just have to take the
time to listen.

I just have to ask! Are you familiar with Rock people - a wonderful little book by Joel Carter? You and he must surely be kindred spirits. Joel used to be a regular at Story People and I feel certain that he'll be stopping in again sometime. At any rate, if you're not familiar with him or his book, I think you'd really enjoy checking out www.rockpeople.org

Oh Linda .... .....
I am a rockpeople (though I haven't checked out that website yet, I surely will)
I have many "friends" around my house, from garden rocks to crystal clusters.
And they DO talk, if only we listen.
Do you mind if I copy your poem for my happy book? It's an altered book I am making of quotes and poems that make me especially happy.
And this thread makes me especially happy.

Anyone who loves rocks is bound to love rockpeople and I'm glad you did Q! I also have little piles of the hard shelled critters in my house as well as the yard -- carried home from distant places -- each one is dusted with a trace of my life in addition to their own, more substantial stories.

Kathryn,
Thanks for telling me about Rockpeople. It's wonderful! I'll pass that site along to the friend whom I wrote the poem about; she'll like it too.
QuicheMarie,
I'd be honored to have a spot in your happy book. I'm glad you like my poem and you're welcome to include it.
