Hey there, Rich!
Love his poetry. I think we Steeps should get together and slam.
Love, Jo
Look up at the sky. Ask yourself, "Has the sheep eaten the flower or not?" And you'll see how everything changes.
And no grown-up will ever understand how such a thing could be so important!

Lovely Rich. Takes me back to the story 'we' wrote together. Time...

I, too, remember a cherished collaboration...
Catherine wrote:
she was an artist, painted landscapes for love and gave each one to him. but..no number of his wishes could bring him a place to hang her pictures and so he sent them back and she took up astronomy instead.
Rich responds:
She learned quickly. Then one night she took out her brushes and her bold strokes moved stars, planets, galaxies. Cold and lonely, he looked up at the sky and watched her signature appear in the lower right hand corner...in cadmium red.

Check THIS one I found while braving the archives tonight (more on that later). This was our friend Kathryn:"Stars Enough"
Posted by kathryn on February 07, 2005 at 12:16:32:
The following is something I wrote LONG ago (as in decades....) but popped to mind after reading "Q's" WONDERFUL poem "Contentment". I had to hunt, but found it and though it speaks FAR less eloquently than Q's, I so remember the starry moment behind this moment......
Let's pretend that we are twelve
and this is our
first kiss.
Like a twenties movie
of poorly spliced film,
we'll start and stop
in awkward flashes.
With hands in pockets
we'll lean and
peek from under
squinty eyelids.
Our noses will bump.
I'll giggle,
your ears will burn red.
I'll adjust my sandal strap
and you, your watch band,
but then we'll check
each other's eyes
in expectation
and sweet desire
and draw near again
with bodies closer this time.
Hand in hand, this time,
our lips will briefly brush;
dry, unparted.
We'll blush
from new, unbidden stirrings
and squeeze each other's hand.
And just for tonight, love,
this will be
stars enough

It Attracts such Beauty.
The funny thing to me is that, over time, this
has been as varied as the people who stop in &
leave a bit of themselves. There are times it has
been heart-wrenchingly gorgeous & sad & funny &
pedantic & gentle.
I would say that you attract beauty, Paul
as Cecily attracts courage & Stacey attracts
moments & Allie attracts poetry & Catherine
attracts eternity & Rich attracts generosity.
& we are all of that, larger because of each other...
I'm glad I could be a part of that...
So, here's a story, hot off a napkin
for you all:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some day, the light will shine like a sun
through my skin & they will say, What have
you done with your life?
& though there are many moments I think I will
remember, in the end, I will be proud to say,
I was one of us.
I remember this -- I think it was written just before or just after I found Story People and when I read it, I knew that I wanted to be one of us too......
