Well, I'm agreement with the Mayans that this is the year when the World As We Know It Ends. So, to celebrate that, I'm letting go of all the the things that no longer serve me. Like these:
1. things I learned from my parents. This is mainly the stuff they didn't know they were teaching me in the first place, like how it is to be a man. Or what it means to put your own dreams aside. You know. The kind of useless stuff you pick up when you're three or four & you don't ever really see it until you're in your fifties.
2. things I learned from people who didn't really know if it was true but since someone had told them, they decided it'd be good to go along with it until they had a better idea. Which is actually a HUGE amount of stuff when you stop to think about it.
3. things I decided about myself that actually go completely counter to reality. This one has been happening much more often than is probably good for me to admit. Kind of like what happened yesterday, when my elder son said he was personable & we all looked at him straight-faced & said, Seriously? & he had the sense to laugh & say, Well, not with you. But definitely with other people who have lower standards.
If you know what I mean by that, I don't have to say anything more. If you don't, I most likely can't explain it to you yet anyway. Don't worry; it'll show up anyway, sooner than you'd like...
But it's not just letting go. There are things coming to fruition in these End Times, too.
1. tumblecloud is launching in the first part of the New Year. This is the new communication platform I've been in development on for the last three years. Way cool technologies. Whole different paradigm for telling a larger story (as in a story that's larger than a single point of view). I'm pretty excited to see what it becomes when the rest of the world gets a chance to mess with it. I'm also pretty excited to send it off, so I can get back to painting for a few months...
2. & I've started putting together a new book. We're shooting for a Valentine's Day release. But this one will tell me its own timeline as we go. I just generally wave my hands in the direction of the birthdate, but it will take as long as it takes.Perhaps it's best to simply say this: I've begun.
Well, there's the overview. I'm sure there are plenty of other things in there I've skipped, but these seem to be the most lively ones this morning.
I'll be interested to hear what you all are up to for this year..
Until next, with love, Brian

Loving Brian's ideas and Scarlett's mysterious surprises.
As for me, I think I'm most interested in having a good supply of paint, clay, sticks, wire and fabric and letting my hands go crazy. And go play with my grand daughter as often as possible, of course.

What will I make happen in 2012?
I will be the best that I can be, purposefully a good mother-in-law, a great (as in really good) grandmother for the first time, the best mom who nurtures and teaches strong, indepedent young men, a wife who expects her husband to do his part, a great employee who makes a difference in the world (praying I won't be needed to for such severe disasters as in 2011), a good boss, who brings out the best in her team.
Mostly, I'll be happy and find peace because when I do that I can be of good influence on others, helping them find comfort, happy and peace. I'll be an encourager for good. I'll read good books, write a little for myself, take more walks in the woods.
Believe.

Hmm, what will I make happen in 2012.
Well, I already make the best cup of coffee this side or that side of the Mason-Dixon line, so I can check that one off my list .
This year has been an incredible journey. I look forward to continuing it in 2012. I have learned on a new level the meaning of letting go and letting in. I recall a story of a Zen master who told his students to go out into the world with an empty rice bowl so they would have room to fill it.
So I will walk through this day, this coming new year, with an open palm and an empty bowl.
I do believe this year is going to be a shift in awareness for us all.
Now, Scarl, do tell

Oh, it's not MY surprise!
I just don't think "The End of the World" is gonna look like a lotta people think it will.
And some will be Very surprised when they get to the other side!

"The End of the World" is different for us all. I believe we see it on our day of death, and we are told in the bible that "we will not know the time or the hour...when the son of man will return.." so I'm just going to go about my life and not worry about it! I think the start of the new year is no different than any other time, especially if you're living your life to bring yourself closer to Christ each and every day. Know what I mean? Sorry..maybe I'm outta bounds here. But that's what I believe. I will continue to be the best momma that I can be, to work on "me" as much as I can--always good to find opportunities to serve, to exhibit humility and patience, etc. That's what the new year holds for me.

I agree, Krista, that all any of us can do is be the "best" we can be. And that the beginning of a new year really is not any different if we are being our "best" regardless of the date.

My New Years resolution: Come back here! I am (somewhat) new and old at the same time. I used to post a tiny bit back in 2008 under a different name but fizzled away. Since then, I have been writing a whole whole bunch, started a Facebook page for my creations, and have just been in love with the creative process. I remembered that I really enjoyed the company here and everyone was so supportive so I decided that I might just like to be around people like that again. So here I am!
