"For all of the quiet things that make life worth living"
That is what the thread describes it, so this occasion belongs here where I can express how grateful I am for everything in my life. Not sure what I am gonna say, but got a hankerin to say something...
Here goes...
I went shoe shopping this weekend. Just a quick stop to pick up a pair of shorts, something to drink at a party, and to pick up a pair of "yard shoes" for the love of my life. The shorts were for me so we were looking for cargo pockets size 34, sale if possible... (that is male mentality of shopping) within 5 mins we had a purchase. Then on our way to the shoe department...
30 mins into the trip... we made it to the end of the first aisle. The trip only lasted forty five mins, but the second aisle was just tennis shoes on the other side and didn't even get noticed. Now I know how my reputation preceeds me, and I know you might be bracing yourself for some male cheuvenist (still don't know how to spell that damned word)[actually that is the closest I have come to thinking that it might be right] yeah 45 mins to go down a row and a half of shoes!!!! Oh for what I am fittin to get into about that row and a half of shoes, I am going to have to start another thread... Sorry Kindred, no small bytes here
btw-- no can of worms openers allowed on the bus. Sassy has expressed her difficulty with opening worms and...
gonna continue this story on another thread

45 mins to get a pair of "yard shoes"
wish I could say that I wished that it could have been an hour, but that would not be true, because I found myself losing concern for time. We made our way down the first aisle, the first quarter I was enthusiastic, and like a journey I went through many transformations before the end of the first aisle. Enthusiastic, proud, interested, observant, voyeuristic... I sat and I watched her look over the shoes, the first time I think I have ever really seen her consumed with something in my presence. Jealousy? was that the twinge of emotion I felt as I watched her peruse the selection!?
Might have been, cause I found myself getting her attention, and we rocked on half way, three quarters, and I must have said something, because she turned to me recognizing me, and announced that we have one more aisle to go... now mind you this next aisle was really just a half aisle cause of the tennis shoes, but I didn't know that. So I smiled... actually I smiled cause she was so damned happy compared to that look of consternation that had been beating down her brow as she looked at every single shoe on the shelf.
Like a swimmer, I took a breath at the end of the second aisle, this shoe shopping thing was pretty new to me and I could hang with it. We started down the second aisle, and I was fresh.
I watched her looking at the shoes, paying extra attention to her taste and what caught her attention. figured it must be a wondering who would wear that kind of thing, cause sometimes she was looking at stuff she would never wear. And I think that is when I got it.
Those shoes represent an image!!!!!!!!!!!
Each pair, like the sandals that my mom used to wear; the same ones she would beat me with. The pair with the two tone linked chain, that my grandma used to wear, was that retro now? Or have they always been here? My mind raced to the numerous styles of shoe that I had been beaten with and I knew why men have a natural affinity to shoes!!!

Okay so there I am looking into the boxes of shoes remembering the shoes that people in my life used to wear, kinda like a photo album, then some cork high heel stripper shoes, lawyer shoes, nanny shoes, practical shoes, hippy shoes.... Each shoe conjured an image, hollographic occupations if you will...
As I started taking notice a little more closely to her, I realized that in her perusal, she was mentally trying them on. Nanny, granny, stripper, hippy, lawyer, she was able to try on roles for fun. That is when time pretty much stopped and I started enjoying shoe shopping. Now the images that popped out of each box were still specific to the shoe style, but it was her modeling them in my mind and wow!!!
Check out this one... Do you like these? I was picking particular shoes she looked particularly good in in my mind. She at one point told me that particular pair was nice but not very practical for yard shoes... We have a connection that words can not explain. I picked up one pair asked her what she thought of them. She told me that she didn't know she hadn't gotten that far yet.
I suddenly realized that I had worked my way around her, was in front of her, and felt a tugging on that connection that I was telling you about. I was not trying to rush her. To the contrary, I was enjoying the hell out of the trip and was just moving a little faster than she. I put the shoes back on the shelf, gave her a smooch as I walked back to her and stayed a few feet by her side, watching her, admiring her, adoring her as we worked our way down the end of the second aisle. We managed to snarf an empty cart to hold the arm load of shoes that she picked out, rolled over to the frosty beverage aisle, took our time on the wine aisle, grabbed a quick six pack of red stripe on the beer aisle and were on our way to the party....

Dear ~A~,
I must admit I wondered about reading a three-pager on shoes, my friend. I'm GLAD I did. That is a fascinating take...imagining the different roles.
It also reminds me:
"Don't criticize someone 'til you've walked a mile in their shoes."
This is one of those concepts that's going to remain in my mind, I can tell...that I will never view shoe shoppers the same.
THANKS!

i liked this too a,
very much....
into the head of a man going shoe shopping with a woman.
and i do that too....
as i look, i picture different outfits, scenarios to wear the shoes in.
my biggest question is....
where the heck do you go shoe shopping in one aisle and then get beer and wine at the same store??
never heard of that.
peace,
mish

ah...the ever-helpful rich!!
and, like mish...that's exactly what i do...try them on in my head!
what scenario would have me in that shoe?
i'll confess....i have a pair or two for which the 'scenario' hasn't happened, yet! but i have hope!
and then there's the shoes that were just so darned cute i had to go buy an outfit to go with the shoes! lol
yea-a-ah...found myself in one of those one-stop-shopping supercenters this weekend and just couldn't resist!!
it'd been so long since i'd 'gone hunting' !!
every purchase the last 2 months had been something for the house....and probably also needed it's own tools! lol
(don't even like shopping the superstores and bought three pairs ...each one filling a specific role! lol)
oh!!
and before y'all start aw-w-w-wing too much over a man that truly appreciates the art of shoe-shopping, remember (!).....
this is the man that posted a pic of himself with his new shoes after Christmas!!!
just teasing....
and i love any story with shoes!!

What a cute story.
I can't imagine having a man that would shoe shop with me and like it....actully get it.
The nice thing about shoes is they always fit when other things don't!
My fave pair of shoe in my closet at present is a stappy bronze sandel; the straps are braided which is really cool. And they really show off painted toe nails!

I had a blast the last time I went shoe shopping. Spent an hour in the bargain room (yes room - LOVE it!) with my two girls. We tried on everything we could, and still there was a lot of untouched territory, unimagined roles to play, after that hour. But it was so much fun. I think it is maybe the adult version of dress up. Who will I be today? What worlds will I conquer? What hearts will I break?
accept who you are then let her be. happiness follows.

hmm, A, i never really thought about the connection between roles and shoes, seeing as i prefer barefootedness (is that even a word?). but i love the idea.
2nd hmm...i order my shoes from a catalog...wonder what that says about me lol. and i am too tall and clumsy for heels. go figure.
Peace, Jo

hard to beat barefooted! lol

but that reminded me of a funny!
one time someone said, 'you walk like a model' (with a heel of a certain height...you can't help it. )
i started laughing and opened my mouth to say, "you've obviously never seen me fall off a sidewalk."
(i've fallen off of just about everything ....but the roof! lol)
then i remembered that video they were airing relentlessly last year of the runway models falling all over the runway (!) and just smiled and said, "thank you"
.....maybe they had seen me fall off the sidewalk....?

*bursts out laughing*
Okay its getting late, and this is my problem with computers. I get on them and then I can't tear myself away from ya'll.
But that's OK lol
Scarlett, my dear, thank you for alwaaaays making me laugh!
And Rich, ... wow. is all. I have. To say.
and Jo - I am so with you! Too tall and clumsy for heels, and allllll about the barefootedness!!!!
The past few days, even in the cold whispers of Cleveland Autumn, I've been running around in my socks, not to be bothered by putting shoes on when looking for my neighbors cat every few hours...
Grady got away from a neighbor in the apartment building next door, a young guy with MS and a knee lacking cartilage, who couldn't chase after or look for his kitty when the cat dashed last Saturday... He showed up on my family's doorstep with hope and desperation on Wednesday night after seeing dash up our driveway. Food and boxes with blankets and several days later, ...not much luck.
Today had a happy ending. After an hour of investigating backyards and front porches in my stocking feet and pajama pants, I found Grady, sleeping in a trash bin. He is a purr monster that definitely prefers barefootedness - indoors and out!! Just like me and Jo.
Barefootedness.
*sigh of happy*

I do get the barefootedness. As a kid...we went barefoot all summer....really sucked when i stepped on a patch of Mexican sand burgs or a bee......
But being barefoot is one of those simple pleasures in life that i doubt i will ever outgrow......thank goodness....
