I am thankful for the phone call I just got!

For those of you who believe in prayer, I have a prayer request!
I have a promising job interview tomorrow at 3pm Rocky Mtn Time.

If I end up getting the job, I will tell you the amazing story behind how I found out about it.

Thanks!

well, mame....
those of us who maybe don;t have faith (at least for the moment) might like to hear the amazing story anyway, whether you get the job or not.
I'll send good thoughts your way tho..does that work?

Thanks Michele!
Good thoughts are always welcome too. The interview went well! I am optimistic! And they said I would know one way or the other by end of next week. More later!

I am still waiting to hear. I was supposed to hear by last friday. My inside source says they have hired 2 of the 3 positions, so I'm not as optimistic as I was about getting the job. But it isn't over til it's over.

The amazing part of it was that the last "serious" job I had was VERY specialized and specific to a particular high tech manufacturing segment, and no other company seemed to be using the same software on which I was an expert. So since I did software modeling and did not write code, there seemed to be no market for my skills.

I had a date with a guy I met online who lives in San Francisco. He was here on business. Over lunch, I found out that his company not only uses that software, but are in the process of building a plant HERE. Go figure! (They are in the process of switching to a different software package, but the concepts are the same and it should be very similar.) It seemed like such a "God thing". But if I don't get it, maybe it's just that God is underscoring that I really need to get out of high tech altogether.

That was me. I didn't post fast enough not to get logged out.

I also forgot to mention that I'd only seen one other job asking for those skills in the 3 1/2 years I have been looking (while selling furniture, etc.) I've also sought opportunities outside of high tech and can't seem to find what I'm looking for there either.

Mish, I hope you aren't sorry you asked!

Mame! Did you hear yet from your job-place? I was just thinking...

If you did not yet hear, Might I suggest you write a letter to the one who makes decisions & let them know how passionate you are about the field... talk about the company & how you would so much enjoy being a part of the team & assisting the company's growth....

If you were not offered the job, may I suggest you send a very similar letter stating all of the above, with an addendum that if they were to ever find themselves with an opening, to please consider you. I've heard of people getting jobs just after they were offered to someone else, as they did not work out (kinda like my lampshade story.. )... or they were offered almost a lateral-type position and were slid over when an opening became available... Also I've heard of companies Creating positions for those they just did not want to let go of. You are Outstanding. We Know this. Make sure They see it, Too.
"Wow. She's aMAzing! We Must Not let her go!!!"

Thanks, Kindred...sounds like good advice. Can't really say I'm passionate about high tech manufacturing...but I am passionate about eating and keeping a roof over my head.

At this point I am just following up on any sales job I can find. Hopefully the weather will turn bad, so I can focus on the job hunt. It has been so gorgeous that I've just had to hike and take pictures! Thanks for all your words of encouragement! I hope your job search is going well too!

Finally got that rejection letter...on my birthday...thank you very much. There is NO way they found 3 candidates better qualified for the job than myself, so I am taking this as God closing this door on purpose, to keep me from getting sucked back into high tech.

I am thankful that I have a job interview lined up for monday. The company makes travel guide books and I would be interviewing business owners in the tourism industry to be included in the books. (My dream job would be to run my own retreat center--so it's at least somewhat related to that arena.) It's basically low-pressure sales of advertising. Sounds kind of fun! I would set my own schedule, (setting up interviews), have flex time (to accommodate hiking and other interests!) I love that I would not be staring at a computer 8 hours a day. It is straight commission, but sounds like it could pay very well.

keep believing in your dream! A little over a year ago one of my best friends was "relieved" of her duty as assistant rector of our church and now in a series of what can only be God opening doors, she is running HER dream retreat center. And I go help! which was my dream. so it can happen. but sometimes doors DO have to be closed so we go in the right direction.
keep the faith. Peace and blessings to you

I am grateful that by some miracle I am still eating and paying my bills.

Many months and 2 failed attempts at straight commission sales jobs later, and I am still floundering in the world of work.

I walked out last night after confronting the big boss who had given me an ultimatum the day before because the sales I have made have all cancelled. The promised "prequalified leads" they've been giving me barely have any income at all (definitely can't afford vacation ownership), and I wasn't getting one-third of the leads I was promised per week. I'm not sure I'm cut out for sales either.

I would appreciate your prayers!

A bizarre thought just occurred to me...that actually, I've gotten really good at confronting nasty evil unfair bosses, due to lots of practice. Maybe that is one of my life contributions to the world at large, to go around and tell them the truth about themselves and their practices.

Hmmmm....maybe I could get paid to do this.....anybody want to hire me to confront their boss???

I'm like a stealth weapon too...most people think I'm "nice" (I hate that dismissive description) and sweet. I think my last boss thought I was a pushover, too nice to customers. Boy was he shocked when I called him on his crap!

Thanks, Mish,

I will think about it.

Starting my own company sounds appealing in some ways and very scary in others. And then there's that question...what kind of business?
