she asked
and the man replied without looking up from his coffee
"just a made up thing in a story"
and she walked away from him, for he was boring.

and the lovely lady replied with a huge smile,
"A fairy is a tiny little girl with wings
who lives in any little hole she can find. In fact,
I have many fairies living on me right now! My favorite
is the little tiny fairy who lives in my ear,
she swings on my earings for fun, and tells me secrets
when I'm sad. But, fairies live everywhere, especially
where there's people. You probably have some living in
your closet since it's nice and quiet in there. They
take baths when it rains, and ride around on dogs and
cats to rest their wings.
They love the sun, and the moon, and take vacations
to the stars when they need a break from people.
They sit in tulips in the spring, and skate on ice
in the winter. They love to sit in a tree and ride the leaves through the wind in the fall (that is why leaves take such strange paths through the wind -- the fairies are driving them) or watch the summer sun set.
Faries love to be talked to, so they'll stay around a long time if you talk to them... even when you don't
see them."
